Climbing isn’t just a sport. It builds confidence, resilience, and community. Thanks to Mountaineering Ireland’s Get Climbing project, schools and youth groups can now introduce their students to this incredible activity free of charge.
Yes, you read that right. A limited number of FREE multi‑week climbing programmes are available through Awesome Walls Dublin. These 6‑week NICAS courses usually start at €96 per participant, but schools and youth groups can now access them at no cost.
This opportunity works perfectly for Transition Year programmes or as a unique addition to youth activities. Even better, our experienced coaches adapt the format and timing to suit your group. That flexibility makes it easy to fit climbing into your schedule.
Why Choose Get Climbing?
The Get Climbing programme removes barriers that often stop teenagers from trying climbing. Open to young people aged 11–17, the initiative aims to:
- Make climbing accessible to every young person.
- Highlight the benefits of climbing—fitness, problem-solving, teamwork, and focus.
- Involve parents, teachers, and communities in discovering a new sport.
- Inspire a lifelong passion for health, activity, and friendship.
Since 2017, the programme has created thousands of climbing opportunities across Ireland. Young people learn essential skills such as knot‑tying, belaying, and safe climbing techniques. Along the way, they also build trust, teamwork, and confidence. The ultimate goal is clear: to create safe, independent climbers who feel part of a thriving community.
Mountaineering Ireland works closely with youth services, DEIS schools, climbing venues, and outdoor providers. As a result, this opportunity reaches as many young people as possible.
